Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary |
Richardson Bay Center & SanctuaryRichardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary is located on the edge of the San Francisco Bay in Northern California. Primarily a Sanctuary providing habitat for migratory waterbirds and other wildlife, We offer ways for our community to connect with the Bay, through education, conservation and restoration programs. Comprised of 11 acres of uplands and 900 acres of submerged lands, the Center supports a variety of ecosystems, making it a diverse and engaging outdoor classroom. Visitors can wander the 1/2 mile hillside/oak woodlands trail, observe a host of pollinators in the Hummingbird Garden, and explore a stretch of unspoiled shore on the San Francisco Bay. To provide migratory waterbirds an important feeding area as they travel along the Pacific Flyway, The Sanctuary's 900 submerged acres are closed to boating and other public use from Oct 1 - March 31. This provides visitors with great birding opportunities from the shore. There are many activities to engage children and adults at the Center. Adults can participate in environmental education workshops, Bay Shore Studies docent programs, and other meaningful volunteer projects. Children can attend Audubon Adventures day camp, school science programs, birthdays and family events. Visitors are invited to participate in lectures, guided walks, and special events. Call 415-388-2524 for more information.
